Ricky Ponting believes that with the current format and rules, especially the impact player rule, Dhoni’s presence down the batting order is strategic. He pointed out that the wicketkeeper-batter often enters during the final overs, playing a brief but potentially game-changing role.
On the question of Dhoni’s retirement, Ponting took a pragmatic stance. He feels that Dhoni’s decision will likely depend on his form as a finisher in the ongoing tournament. For now, he sees no urgent reason for the former Indian captain to hang up his boots, especially since he continues to deliver when needed.
