The much-anticipated IPL 2025 season is set to begin on March 22 and fans will once again witness MS Dhoni in action. The 43 years old cricketer, who announced his retirement from international cricket after India’s heartbreaking semi-final loss to New Zealand in the 2019 ODI World Cup, continues to be a vital presence for Chennai Super Kings. Having been away from international cricket for over five years, he will now feature in the tournament as an uncapped player.
Reflecting on his final IPL years during a recent event, Dhoni stated that whatever final years of cricket he has, he intends to enjoy the game just as he did in his childhood. He expressed his desire to play with the same innocence he had as a school boy, reminiscing about his younger days when evenings were reserved for sports. He admitted that maintaining such an approach is easier said than done but he remains committed to relishing the experience.
The former Indian captain also shared his thoughts on discipline and dedication in cricket. MS Dhoni’s legacy as a captain remains unparalleled, with three major ICC trophies under his belt. He led India to victory in 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy, making him the only skipper to achieve this remarkable feat. His leadership also brought India success in multiple Asia Cup campaigns.
Although he handed over CSK’s captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad before the IPL 2024, Dhoni continues to be the backbone of the team’s decision-making.
