As per a rule in the IPL, any player who was out of the ground for more than 8 minutes has to be on the ground for the same amount of time otherwise he is not eligible to bowl.

CSK bowler Matheesha Pathirana went out of the ground after bowling his first and overall 12th over of the GT innings for the purpose of getting treated for a niggle and he returned to bowl his second and overall 16th over but on-field umpire Anil Chaudhary stopped Pathirana from bowling. Dhoni checked from the other umpire Chris Gaffaney as to what Anil Chaudhary was discussing with Matheesha Pathirana, the match officials told MSD that Pathirana needed to wait for some time before he would be allowed to bowl.

Mahi who is a clever skipper kept on discussing with the umpires and wasted four minutes tactfully after which Matheesha Pathirana was allowed to bowl the 16th over.
