It has been 20 years that Victoria Terminus has been renamed as Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and now once again, the government has taken the decision of changing the name. Yes, now the government wishes to add the word “Maharaj”, which will make it “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus”.
However, this won’t be restricted to terminus only, but would be added to Mumbai airport as well, making it “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport”. This is to befit the stature of the legendary Maratha warrior king.
The announcement of the same was made yesterday morning by the State Cabinet, presided by CM Devendra Fadnavis, in the legislature’s winter session. However, according to this process, they will make necessary changes physically too. Talking about railway terminus, changes will have to be made in public announcement systems and ticketing. Currently the airport is termed CSIA and the railway terminus is known CSTM. Earlier too Bombay was renamed to “Mumbai” and now this new change!
Last month, there was a lot of controversy surrounding renaming of Oshiwara to Ram Mandir station. Don’t know how far these new changes would be accepted by Mumbaikars; people are already slamming this decision.

Isn't Chhatrapati already an honorific meaning "emperor" etc? Isn't adding a Maharaj the equivalent of "chai tea" or "naan bread"?
