Rinku Singh has emerged as one of the most exciting young cricketers in Indian cricket. The left-handed batter from Aligarh, who first gained attention with his power-hitting in the Indian Premier League, has since grown into a dependable performer. At 27, he already has experience in both ODIs and T20Is, and his determination to expand his role in Indian cricket is evident. Now, as part of India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad, Rinku travels to Dubai with hopes not only of contributing to his team but also of proving himself as an all-format player.
The Asia Cup, which begins on September 9 and features eight teams, will be a significant test for Rinku. While he has played two ODIs and 33 T20Is for India so far, his recent performances in the Uttar Pradesh Premier League for Meerut Mavericks have strengthened his case for a place in the national playing XI. His big knocks there have reminded selectors and fans of his ability to deliver under pressure.
Despite being known largely as a T20 specialist, Rinku has made it clear that he does not want to be restricted by that tag. He explained that while fans enjoy watching him hit sixes, his first-class record also speaks for itself. With an impressive average of over 55 in the Ranji Trophy, he believes his red-ball credentials deserve recognition. For him, the ultimate dream is to play Test cricket for India and he insists he is preparing himself to be ready whenever that opportunity comes.
Rinku’s vision is inspired by his idol, former India and Uttar Pradesh batter Suresh Raina. He often recalls Raina’s advice to always stay prepared for any challenge. Just like Raina, who became known for producing match-winning innings in crucial positions, Rinku aspires to become the kind of player who can serve India across formats. For him, being compared to Raina is both an inspiration and a responsibility and he hopes to build a similar legacy.
Although Rinku missed out on a place in India’s 2024 T20 World Cup squad, he has kept his focus firmly on future opportunities. He knows that strong performances in the Asia Cup will not only help India in the tournament but also improve his chances of securing a spot in the 2026 T20 World Cup squad. That edition of the tournament will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka early next year and Rinku sees it as the biggest stage to showcase his talent.
He openly admits that representing India in a World Cup and lifting the trophy is his ultimate dream. He believes that consistent performances in the Asia Cup will bring him closer to that goal. With determination in his voice, he has said that he prays for the opportunity and is confident that he will deliver when it matters the most.
For now, the Asia Cup offers Rinku Singh the chance to show that he is not just a short-format batter but a player ready to embrace every challenge cricket has to offer. If he succeeds, it could mark the beginning of a bigger role for him in Indian cricket across all formats.
