Namrata Shirodkar, a well-known Bollywood actress, gained recognition for her roles in films like “Vaastav” and “Pukar”. She also appeared in the 2004 film Bride and Prejudice, starring Aishwarya Rai. During her career, Namrata was often offered bold roles but she consistently turned them down, stating her discomfort with on-screen intimacy.
In an interview, she stated that she was not comfortable in doing such roles in which she had to make love or doing kissing scenes. She added that she is thankful to God that she belongs to a secure background and she is not desperate.
Namrata added that she made a deliberate effort to select roles that showcased her acting potential. She emphasised that her career choices were always about quality over quantity, with her preference being one or two films a year. She said that usually she has never done more than one movie in a year.
In 2005, Namrata decided to leave her acting career. She married Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu, and her departure from films was partly influenced by his preference. In a 2022 interview with a Telugu YouTube channel, she revealed that Mahesh wanted her to quit working, not just in the film industry but in any professional capacity. Namrata stated that Mahesh Babu’s desire was not just limited to the movie industry, even if she had been in a corporate job, he would have asked her to quit that job as well because he didn’t want a working wife.
Namrata’s last appearance on the big screen was in “Rok Sako To Rok Lo” in 2004, where she acted alongside Sunny Deol. After that, she left both Mumbai and Bollywood behind, relocating to Hyderabad and stepping away from the limelight.
While Namrata moved away from acting, she didn’t completely sever ties with the film industry. In 2022, she produced the film “Major”, marking her return to cinema, albeit in a different role behind the scenes.
