The fourth test match of the Ashes 2023 is being played at the Old Trafford cricket ground, Greater Manchester and the match seems to be heading towards the draw. The hosts won the toss and decided to bowl first, the Aussies put up a score of 317 runs on the score board in their first innings and in response, England put up a great show as they posted a total of 592 runs on the score board.
The highest scorer for England was Zak Crawley who scored 189 runs in 182 balls and his innings included 21 fours & 3 sixes. While Moeen Ali (54 runs), Joe Root (84 runs), Harry Brook (61 runs) and Ben Stokes (51 runs) made useful contributions, their wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow was left stranded at 99 runs not out. The Aussies are playing their second innings, currently they are trailing by 65 runs and still have 6 wickets in hand.
An interesting incident took place in the commentary box during the match when Nasser Hussain slapped his former teammate Mark Butcher on his head. It all happened when Mark Butcher called Nasser’s decision of bowling first wrong in the Gabba test match during the 2002 tour. Nasser Hussain was the skipper of the team and the England squad travelled to Australia for a five-match series which Nasser Hussain’s team lost by 4-1. Mark Butcher was not happy with the decision because of the bounce of the pitch and eventually Steve Waugh-led team won that test match by 384 runs.
