Sarfaraz Ahmad & team was the butt of jokes almost a week back but they became heroes of Pakistan after snatching the Champions Trophy 2017 from India’s hands. The underdog team didn’t just win the prestigious trophy but also the worldwide appreciation for their outstanding performance against India.
We all noticed how the team was given a grand welcome in Pakistan and how all the fans celebrated their victory with complete joy. To add to the happiness of Sarfaraz and team, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced a reward of Rs 10 million i.e. Rs 1 crore each for every player who played in the championship.
According to a report in the Dawn, Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the prime minister has announced the reward for the national team for winning the Champions Trophy. She said that by showing brilliant performance in the tournament, the national team had lifted the spirits of the nation. She also added that Pakistani team outclassed their opponents in all departments – batting, fielding and bowling.
Team Pakistan, who came into the tournament on the 8th number, has climbed to the sixth position in the latest ICC ODI Team Rankings now. The jump in rankings means Pakistan now moves closer to direct qualification for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also announced Rs 1 million for each member of the winning squad. Further, a bonus of Rs 29 million will be shared by the members of the squad, reported the Dawn.
