Ever since standing up for the National Anthem became mandatory last year, many cases of people getting bashed up at movie theatres started coming up. In a bid to curb such incidents down, the Supreme Court has come up to clarify its orders. The Supreme Court stated that it is mandatory for anyone to stand when National Anthem is played as part of a movie.
Last year, a bench of justices Dipak Misra and Amitav Roy had ordered that National Anthem will be played before the start of a movie at every theatre. Just days after the decision, Aamir Khan’s Dangal was released wherein the National Anthem was played as part of a movie. The Supreme Court in its previous orders had only stated about standing for the National Anthem before the start of a movie and not as part of a movie. However, there were many incidents when people were forced to stand up during the National Anthem that was played as part of the movie Dangal.
To stop this confusion, SC has come up with a new statement to clarify its previous orders. As reported by the ANI, the Supreme Court stated that people are not obliged to stand up when the National Anthem is played as part of a film or documentary. SC also stated that the full version of the National Anthem should be played and not the edited part of It. It also stated that playing National Anthem in between the movie or during the movie for any commercial purposes would not be allowed.
According to reports, Supreme Court stated,
“The directions are issued, for love and respect for the motherland is reflected when one shows respect to the National Anthem as well as to the National Flag. That apart, it would instil the feeling within one, a sense committed patriotism and nationalism. Also, ordering for the playing of National Anthem before the film starts accompanied by the showing of National Flag on screen. The full version should be played and not the edited part of the anthem. Also, that the National Anthem cannot be played in between the film for any commercial benefit.”
This new clarification of orders from SC is surely going to end all those fights in theatres. We hope SC understands that forced Nationalism is not a way of encouraging patriotism.
