The situation in the NIT Srinagar is under control after the two companies of CRPF were deployed in the college campus. It all started with the demand of nearly 400 outstation students to organize a protest to raise some issues related to academics and bring them in the notice of administration.
The situation got tensed after police was called when students were not ready to go back to their classes despite the promise made by the director that their issues will be dealt with. The students then demanded to organize the march outside the campus which was denied by the police in order to prevent any clash in the city but in the evening the students used force to get out of the campus and also pelted stones on the police which led to lathi charge by the cops in reply.
It all started on Friday when the non-local students had a clash with the Kashmiri students as the localites were celebrating after the victory of West Indies in the Semi-final of World T20. West Indies defeated India in the Semi-finals and celebrations after India’s defeat was something which the non-Kashmiri students were not able to bear. The institute was closed till Wednesday by the management after the clash on Friday.
The Home Minister and HRD ministry are keeping an eye on the matter and in touch with the Director of the institute.
