J Jayalalithaa’s followers and supporters are not able to cope up with the fact that their favorite Amma is no more with them and now they have to live without her. One policeman has left his job in order to build a shrine in memory of Jayalalithaa whom he considered as his mother.
R Velmurugan (45) was posted as head constable in the Odapatti police station which is in Theni district but now he has submitted his resignation to the Superintendent of Police, Theni district, as now he just wants to build a shrine for Amma, whom he has met many times and also served her during the tenure of his job.
Velmurugan is shocked on Jayalalithaa’s demise. In his words,
“I am a pious man. I had gone to Kasi to pray for Amma as soon as I heard she was admitted to hospital. But God has not answered my prayers. I arrived in Chennai on Monday, the day my mother passed away.”
Velmurugan’s father, Ramaiah, was also security personnel at the house of MGR in Ramavaram. Velmurugan served Jayalalithaa as a security guard in her house from the year 1999 to 2002. He said,
“She was my idol right from my college days. It was a dream come true when I was posted as a security guard at her house. I would wait eagerly for her smile everyday, when she left her home.”
The cop has a family to take care of, which comprises of a wife and two teenage sons, still he has submitted his resignation and AIADMK as a party is no importance to him. He added,
“I’m not concerned about what happens to the AIADMK in future. To me, only Amma will symbolise the party.”
There are 14 Guinness records in the name of Velmurugan which include 157 km of swimming in Periyar river, jumping from a height of 81 feet into a four foot deep tank and standing for 81 hours on just one leg. He donated Rs. 3 lakh in chief minister’s relief fund in 2004, which he collected in 81 days when he ran 3600 km across TN. He further said,
“I am proud of my achievements but what pleased me more was to receive the awards from the chief minister herself.”
The cop plans to inaugurate the shrine on Amma’s birth anniversary, i.e., Feb 24 and for this purpose, he is planning to invite the CM of the state, O Paneerselvam.
What great love, dedication and affection towards the motherly figure!
