It won’t be wrong to say that Sanjay’s past has changed Ranbir’s future in view of the fact that “Sanju” is the biggest movie of his career and has given it a much-needed boost. What’s more, it has set his standard very high and now fans have much higher expectations from Ranbir.

But do you know who gave the idea of making “Sanju” to Hirani?

No it’s neither Sanjay Dutt nor Rajkumar Hirani himself thought about it but someone who is very close to Sanjay is behind the biopic.

Any guesses?

Well, it’s none other than Sanjay’s wife Manyata Dutt!

If reports are to be believed, Hirani visited Sanjay’s house when he was out on parole and during the meeting, Sanjay shared few anecdotes related to his life. Hirani found them funny, gripping and interesting and couldn’t stop himself from going to Sanjay’s house every evening. In the meantime, Manyata suggested Hirani to make “a film about the life of Sanjay Dutt”.

Initially, Hirani refused the idea, saying,

“That world of underworld and guns, that’s not really my territory.”

As per the filmmaker,

“I told her it doesn’t excite me, and she said there’s much more to his life. So I think from Day 2 onwards, he started narrating with that intention.”

In the beginning, he was not at all in mood to make Sanjay Dutt’s biopic, thinking that it will be too dark but after listening to hilarious anecdotes from Sanjay, he changed his mind.

In the words of Hirani,

“I heard one episode which was very, very funny, and I wondered if that really happened. Then I heard another, and that is primarily what I like, humour, and so, after three-four funny anecdotes, I got sucked in. They were stray anecdotes, and, at that moment in time, I didn’t even know how to put it together.”

Sanjay also gives the credit of “Sanju” to Manyata and she deserves all the praises as her idea has shattered many records on the box-office and left behind even the three Khans.
