Many times we have come across debate regarding who the best white-ball cricketer is – Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli, and recently former India captain Sourav Ganguly made a big statement in this regard. Ganguly believes the 37-year-old Delhi-born right-handed batter (Virat) is the greatest white-ball player the world has ever seen.

In a video shared by a sports channel on X, Sourav Ganguly also backed Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to feature in India’s squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup and play an important role in the 14-team tournament.

The 2027 ODI World Cup is scheduled to take place from October 2 to November 21 across 12 venues in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Sourav Ganguly pointed out that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are experienced champions and suggested that their decision to focus only on 50-over cricket could help them stay fresh for the tournament. He also said that, despite the World Cup still being around a year away, he expects both the players to make it to the squad and aim to finish their ODI careers on a high.
While speaking about Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly described him as the best white-ball cricketer ever and said the former India captain would be keen to end his World Cup journey in his own style. Ganguly also spoke about Rohit Sharma’s form, saying that the Indian opener’s performances had improved after the England series and expressing hope that he would continue playing well for India.

Virat Kohli currently stands as the second highest run-scorer in the ODI World Cup history. He also holds the record for the most runs scored by a batter in a single edition of the tournament, having accumulated 765 runs in 11 matches during the 2023 ODI World Cup. The 2027 edition could give Kohli an opportunity to surpass Sachin Tendulkar and become the highest run-scorer in the ODI World Cup history.
There is also another major milestone waiting for Virat Kohli. If India win the 2027 ODI World Cup, he would become the first and only Indian cricketer to win two ODI World Cup titles as Kohli was part of MS Dhoni-led Indian team that lifted the trophy in 2011.
