There is no doubt that for Olympians, their medals are extremely precious! They go out of their way and show brilliant performances to secure one. But what if the same medal can save someone’s life? Isn’t it awesome?
Yes, something similar happened with this Olympian named Piotr Malachowski, a discus thrower from Poland. Well, he won a silver medal at Rio and you will love the way he used the medal.
Instead of keeping it for himself, Piotr used it for a very good cause and i.e. for funding a 3-year old’s surgery. Yes, he helped Olek, who was fighting eye cancer since 2 years. He sold the medal and used the money for the child’s surgery.
Piotr was very determined on getting a medal for Olek at Rio Olympics and he definitely tried very hard towards it. Although, he aimed for a gold medal, since it would haved helped in fetching more money, unfortunately, he couldn’t do so. But he was thankful enough to win a silver medal, which was definitely of great use.
His medal was purchased by Sebastian Kulczyk and Dominka, a rich couple, who made sure to pay enough money for fulfilling the need.
Piotr was very happy that he could achieve something! His joy knew no bounds after this.
It is really good to see generous Olympians like these, isn’t it? What do you have to say about this? Do let us know your thoughts in our comments section below!
