We all know how ‘Udta Punjab’ was surrounded numerous controversies. These controversies are barely over and now another film by Anurag Kashyap has to face the brunt of the Censor Board. Yes, you heard it right! Now, CBFC has again created troubles for his new film over ‘objectionable content’.
Titled ‘Haraamkhor’, this Nawazzuddin Siddiqui starrer revolves around a love story between a teacher and a student. The CBFC has raised objections on the theme itself. It is of the opinion that in India, teacher is idolized and worshipped and hence, a love affair cannot be shown between a student and a teacher.
Reports say that in the CBFC letter, it was written
“There are many filthy dialogues spoken by kids and body gestures of the kids were also found to be objectionable. Kids committing crime etc does not merit any certificate to the film. Hence, ‘refused’ because of its theme itself.”
Now, the filmmakers will challenge this decision by taking the matter to the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal. This movie was premiered in the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles and 15th Annual New York Indian Film Festival and is directed by Shlok Sharma. It is produced by Guneet Monga and Anurag Kashyap under the banner of Sikhya Entertainment.
In an interview, Guneet stated “A court battle with the Censor Board in the vein of Udta Punjab is not an option for them. “It’s a small, mostly crowdfunded film,” she says. “We don’t have the resources to go and fight this out in the courts.”
People took to Twitter and expressed their anger over this!
