An alleged henchman has been arrested by an Anti-Terrorism Squad of Gujarat on the charges of killing 3 witnesses in rape cases that were filed against Asaram Bapu. Kartik Haldar, a native of West Bengal’s South 24 Pargana district was arrested from Chhattisgarh’s Raipur, in a joint operation by Crime Branch Unit and ATS.
After investigation, it was found that Kartik had attempted to kill 4 other people who were involved in these rape cases that were filed against the godman in Ahmedabad and Jodhpur, said Joint Commissioner of Police, J K Bhatt. Another shocking thing that was revealed that he was hired by the followers of Asaram so that cases can be weakened. Moreover, it is alleged that he was hired for a sum of Rs.25 lakh for killing the witnesses.
Haldar first met Asaram in the year 2000 for some religious discourse. Later, he became a full-time follower and lived in his ashram at Motera. To execute his crimes, he acquired 10 country made pistols and 94 cartridges from various dealers in UP and Jharkhand.
