Cricket conversations don’t always have to be serious and this week, social media proved exactly that. Cricket Uganda joined the fun on X after responding to one of Iceland Cricket’s trademark humorous posts, turning a serious topic like the T20 World Cup into a moment of laughter for fans online.

Iceland, known for its witty and self-aware posts, joked on Thursday that they would not be able to step in if a spot opened up for the T20 World Cup. With limited time left to prepare, they said replacing a team like Pakistan, who were reportedly considering boycotting the tournament, would not be possible. Their post quickly caught attention, setting the tone for a playful exchange.

Cricket Uganda did not miss the chance to respond. In a tweet addressed to the ICC, they confidently and humorously put themselves forward as ready replacements.
They wrote, “Dear @ICC, If a T20 World Cup seat opens, Uganda is ready, packed and padded. Passports warm (not ice). No bakers leaving ovens or ships U-turning. Heat, noise, pressure? We’ll bring the bold kit.”

The reply was a clever nod to Iceland’s earlier jokes. Iceland had previously said their players couldn’t just drop their day jobs to travel. They joked that their captain is a professional baker with ovens to watch, their ship captain still needed to steer his vessel and their bankers had responsibilities to attend to before heading to India.

Iceland later clarified that even if Pakistan did withdraw, the tight timelines would make it impossible for them to prepare professionally for the tournament. Still, they leaned into the humour, reminding followers that despite being the most peaceful country in the world, they have an “army” of online supporters and are the 14th most followed national cricket board on X.
The exchange was another reminder that cricket’s online presence can be just as entertaining as the game itself.
