“Pehredaar Piya Ki” attracted much controversy even before its telecast as it allegedly promotes child marriage. However, the makers and the lead actors of the show are of the opinion that the serial is not at all intended for promoting child marriage but on the contrary, it’s about women empowerment.
Mansi Jain posted a petition addressed to Information and Broadcasting minister Smriti Zubin Irani on Change.org for getting “Pehredaar Piya Ki” off air and the petition has been signed by more than one lakh people till now.
Here’s what the petition reads:
“Pehredaar Piya Ki – A 10 year old impressionable little kid (“piyaa”) caressing and stalking a lady who’s more than double his age and filling sindoor in her “maang” is being telecasted at prime time -8:30pm on sony. (Family time) It is to be devoured by the entire Nation. Imagine the kind of influence it will steadily and perpetually infuse in the viewers’ mindset. We want a ban on the serial. We do not want our kids to be influenced by such TV serials. Join us in signing the petition to ban this serial (sic).”
After observing the petition, a swift action has been taken by Smriti Irani who has written to BCCC (Broadcasting Content Complaints Council), asking the officials to deal with the matter on priority and take a quick action against “Pehredaar Piya Ki”.
From the very beginning, audiences couldn’t digest a 9-yr boy Ratan stalking a 19-yr girl Diya and falling in love with her.
Even more amazingly, romantic sequences were shot between the odd couple who eventually got married under some unfavorable conditions.
Probably this was not enough and the makers went on to the extent of shooting Suhaagraat and honeymoon sequences which ultimately broke viewers’ patience and furious people started asking for a ban on the show.
Now this is definitely a bad news for the fans of the show, if any, that the serial might go off air! Well, nothing can be said with confirmation in this connection as of now and we need to wait for the action of BCCC to further comment on the matter!
