Pehredaar Piya Ki: Sony Finally Took The Show Off Air! Cast & Crew In Deep Shock

“Pehredaar Piya Ki” has been making headlines even before the show was telecasted, just after the release of promos, for all the wrong reasons. It was objectionable on the part of viewers as well as celebrities to watch a 9-yr boy stalking a 19-yr girl and then finally proposing to her for marriage. Finally, the odd couple got married under some unavoidable circumstances and the woman decided to guard her husband and become his ‘pehredaar’. The show was controversial from the very beginning for allegedly promoting child marriage and most people didn’t like the concept of a little boy romancing and getting wed to a girl twice his age. That all was not enough and the makers went on to the extent of shooting the Suhaagraat sequences between Ratan and Diya. Even though there was nothing vulgar or obscene in this sequence, this idea itself was absolutely weird and hard to digest.

This all infuriated viewers to such an extent that an online petition was started to ban the show and taking action on the same, BCCC asked the channel to change the show time from prime 8:30PM slot to 10:30PM. Makers were also asked for running a disclaimer which said that the show was not intended to promote child marriage. They were even planning a 12-yr leap to put an end to all the obstacles and the audition for grown-up prince Ratan also started.

However, it appears that all the tactics on the part of the makers didn’t work and “Pehredaar Piya Ki” has finally gone off-air! Yes, you read it right! The show was not telecasted on 28th August, i.e., yesterday. It was definitely a matter of great shock for cast and crew.

An official statement is released by Sony TV regarding “Pehredaar Piya Ki” going off-air,

“Effective 28th August 2017, we are pulling off our programme, Pehredaar Piya Ki, from television. While we understand that the decision to end this serial will be disappointing to those whose creative energies are vested in it, namely, its crew and cast, we (as a channel) are convinced that we will be better served by focusing instead on developing viewer interest in our upcoming, new shows. We are grateful to all the artists, producers and fans of our shows and request you to graciously support the viewership of our newer ventures.”

When Jiten Lalwani, who is also a part of the serial, was asked to comment on the matter, he said,

“Yes. If the episode hasn’t aired then you know the news is true.”

Suyyash Rai also expressed his sense of disappointment over the news and said,

“If this is happening, then I am shocked. I was waiting to re-enter the show after the leap. Tejaswi is a close friend so I wanted to be a support to her and work with her. I wanted the show to do well as a lot of hard work goes into a show when it is launched. So many people including technicians will lose their jobs when the show shuts.”

This is definitely a big blow to fans of the show, if any, but I’m sure viewers must be happy with this decision of the channel! What do you have to say in this connection?
