Punjab Kings and co-owner Preity Zinta have issued a strong warning after several unverified rumours involving the franchise and its players started circulating on social media.

While neither PBKS nor Preity Zinta revealed the exact nature of the claims, both made it clear that false narratives and misinformation targeting the team, players or the brand would not be tolerated.

Punjab Kings had a dream start to their IPL 2026 campaign. The team remained unbeaten in their first seven matches and quickly emerged as one of the strongest contenders for the playoffs and even a top-place finish. However, things have changed dramatically in recent weeks. PBKS are currently going through a difficult phase after losing four consecutive matches, raising concerns about their momentum ahead of the final stretch of the tournament.

Amid this poor run of form, rumours and online speculation surrounding the franchise began gaining attention. Responding to the situation, PBKS shared a statement on X, warning users against spreading false stories just for attention and engagement.

“Criticism, banter, and opinions are part of sport. Fake stories and made-up narratives for cheap engagement are not. We urge everyone, especially ‘sports journalists’, to verify facts before spreading misinformation for attention or traction,” PBKS posted on X.

The franchise later deleted the post and uploaded a revised version, removing the mention of “sports journalists”.

Preity Zinta also addressed the controversy personally and asked people, including media professionals, to act responsibly before sharing unverified reports.

“There’s a difference between criticism & calculated misinformation. Healthy debate around the game is welcome, but the deliberate spread of fake narratives to damage individuals, the team, or the brand should not & will not be taken lightly. I urge everyone — including verified voices & media professionals — to exercise responsibility before amplifying unverified information. Thank you,” she posted on X.
