Prithvi Shaw, the Maharashtra opener, reportedly apologised to Mumbai’s rising all-rounder Musheer Khan following an intense argument between the two during a warm-up match at the MCA Stadium in Gahunje on Tuesday. The clash, which briefly turned ugly, took place after Prithvi Shaw was dismissed off Musheer Khan’s bowling despite scoring a brilliant 181 runs off 220 balls.
According to visuals captured from the ground, Prithvi Shaw appeared visibly frustrated after getting out. As he walked back, he seemed to take a swing with his bat in the direction of a Mumbai player, though he did not make contact. His batting partner quickly intervened to calm him down. Moments later, Prithvi Shaw was seen exchanging heated words with Musheer Khan, with several Mumbai players surrounding the two. The umpires stepped in to separate them, while senior player Siddhesh Lad continued to argue with Prithvi Shaw as he walked away.
Reports later suggested that Musheer Khan may have said something to Prithvi Shaw after taking his wicket, which provoked the reaction. Prithvi Shaw, who moved from Mumbai to Maharashtra earlier this year for more playing opportunities, was reportedly on the receiving end of sledging throughout his innings.
However, after the match, the 25-year-old realised his mistake and decided to make peace. A source quoted by a leading publication revealed that Prithvi Shaw approached Musheer Khan to apologise, telling him that he considered himself “an elder brother” and wanted to clear the air. The situation was soon resolved and the two players left the ground on good terms.
Both the cricketers have been making headlines for different reasons. Prithvi Shaw, once hailed as India’s next big batting star, has struggled to fulfill his early promise due to inconsistent form and off-field controversies. Musheer Khan, at 20, is considered one of the most promising young all-rounders of India but is known for his fiery temperament, much like his elder brother Sarfaraz Khan.
Interestingly, Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan share a long friendship, having grown up playing together in Mumbai’s cricket circuit. Both Sarfaraz and Musheer are part of Mumbai’s squad for the upcoming 2025 Ranji Trophy, while Prithvi Shaw will continue representing Maharashtra as he looks to rebuild his career with strong domestic performances.
The incident, though tense, now seems to have ended on a positive note, with both the players showing maturity and respect and this is certainly good for the players and the game as well.
