You must be remembering that R Ashwin is a strong supporter of mankading, which has been now declared as run-out at non-striker’s end by the MCC. In this type of dismissal, the non-striker is given out if the bowler removes the bails provided the non-striker has left the crease even before the ball has been bowled.

Ravichandran Ashwin has been involved in this type of dismissal two times; in 2017 during an ODI match between India and Sri Lanka, R Ashwin dismissed Sri Lankan batter Lahiru Thirimanne as the he was backing up at the non-striker’s end but the then skipper Virender Sehwag took back the appeal and the batter got saved.

In 2019, Ravichandran Ashwin created a storm when he dismissed the Rajasthan Royals batter Jos Buttler in the same fashion and many former cricketers and fans trolled him as they believed that it was against the spirit of sports.

However, R Ashwin remained unfazed and he made it clear to everyone that he will go it again if he gets the chance to do so.

Currently in the video which is going viral, R Ashwin is standing at the non-striker’s end and the bowler stops in between the run-up and warns the Indian spinner.

A famous X user, @CricCrazyJohns posted the video with the caption, “A Warning to Ravichandran Ashwin at the non-striker end in TNPL.”

Soon online users started reacting and one of them stated that warning is not applicable to Ashwin. He wrote, “The word warning is applicable only if the non striker gains undue advantage by leaving the crease. I don’t think the warning is applicable to @ashwinravi99 in this case.”

Another user pointed out, “Exactly. Why are the commentators not pointing the fact that he was in at the time of the delivery stride, and that it would have been a Not out?”

Soon, R Ashwin also reacted to this matter and he posted, “Cos they don’t know the rule.” Ashwin also posted the screenshot of the MCC laws related to run-out at the non-striker’s end.
