The Modi government has rolled out Goods and Service Tax (GST) from July 1 despite stiff resistance from the opposition which is still slamming the government for implementing GST in a hasty manner. Congress and some other opposition parties boycotted the mega event of GST launch which took place on Friday midnight. The event was conducted at Central Hall of Parliament and President Pranab Mukherjee and PM Modi both rolled out GST together.
Congress is lending support to GST but it has a problem with the manner in which it is being implemented. Rahul Gandhi, Congress VP, is presently on holidays but he took to Twitter to express his and his party’s disagreement on the matter in a series of tweets. As per him, the implementation of GST is a “tamasha” and the manner in which it is being implemented in “half-baked”. He adds that it is a “self-promotional spectacle” of the Modi government. He has alleged that the government is implementing GST without any preparation and backup just as it did at the time of demonetisation.
Take a look at Rahul’s tweets:
“A reform that holds great potential is being rushed through in a half-baked way with a self-promotional spectacle #GSTTamasha”

Congress boycotted the mega launch as it did not consider this tax reform equivalent to the midnight celebrations of Independence or celebrations of 25 years of Independence that took place in 1972 which were followed by Golden Jubilee celebrations in 1997.
