Shilpa Shetty, who recently turned 50, celebrated her milestone birthday in Croatia with her husband Raj Kundra, her sister Shamita Shetty and other family members. However, the celebration took an unexpected turn when a video surfaced online showing a confrontation between the actress’ group and a foreign tourist.
The video was shared by an Instagram user who claimed the incident took place on June 9, 2025, on Hvar Island in Croatia. According to the post, while a tourist was having her meal, Shilpa and her family were talking loudly. When the tourist politely asked them to lower their voices, the user alleged that Raj Kundra responded by saying, “You don’t know who we are”. The Instagrammer said this line wasn’t caught on video as it happened suddenly.
The video also captured voices of Shilpa and her group saying, “Don’t talk to us, we don’t want to hear you,” while the tourist appeared to be calmly requesting them to speak more softly. The person who posted the video urged viewers to reflect on whether such behaviour from Indian celebrities abroad was appropriate, suggesting that it might harm India’s image and that media figures like Arnab Goswami should highlight such instances.

Reacting to the viral video, Raj Kundra spoke to a leading publication and offered clarity on the situation. He said the confrontation escalated due to a double-booking issue at the table, which was mistakenly handed over to another group, leading to the heated exchange.
Raj Kundra has addressed the viral video that captured a confrontation during Shilpa Shetty’s birthday celebration in Croatia, shedding light on the events that led to the unpleasant scene.
In his statement to a leading publication, Raj Kundra explained that he had booked the restaurant a year in advance to celebrate Shilpa Shetty’s 50th birthday. However, upon arriving at the venue, he and the group were told that their table had been given to someone else due to what the restaurant staff called a “double booking” error made by the same agent.
Raj Kundra, who has experience managing restaurants himself, expressed his frustration over how the situation was handled. He pointed out that their group, which included his elderly parents, mother-in-law and 20 other guests, had to wait unnecessarily. What was supposed to be a joyful evening turned into a stressful experience, made worse when they were told to stay quiet after voicing their concerns.
He added that it was particularly disappointing for him because he had spent an entire year planning the trip and what should have been a memorable celebration was instead marred by poor management. He concluded by saying that the lack of responsibility and basic courtesy from the restaurant was extremely upsetting and hoped this explanation would help people understand what really happened.
Meanwhile, reactions to the viral video on social media have been strong and divided. Some users criticised the celebrity group for their behaviour in a public place, regardless of where they were. One user said it was important to maintain decorum whether in India or abroad. Another commented that wealth does not necessarily reflect class and others pointed out that being a public figure does not justify speaking loudly in public, calling it poor manners.
The incident has triggered a wider conversation online about celebrity conduct in foreign countries and the responsibilities that come with public visibility.
