Actor Rajat Bedi, a familiar face from the 2000s, has recently found a renewed spark in his career, thanks to his role in Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, The Ba***ds of Bollywood. In the series, he plays Jaraj Saxena, a Bollywood actor whose face rings a bell for everyone even if they can’t quite recognise him. This character seems to mirror Rajat’s own journey, especially his memorable role in the blockbuster film Koi Mil Gaya.
Speaking at a film festival, Rajat opened up about the challenges he has faced, both personally and professionally. He recalled a difficult period in Canada where he was working as a real estate developer and was let down by his business partners. Despite the negative experience, he sees it as a turning point that brought him back to India.
However, upon his return, he faced another setback. He was notably left out of the promotions for Koi Mil Gaya, a film that became a massive success. While the movie was publicized with its lead stars — Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta, Rajat was sidelined.
Despite this, he feels immense gratitude that fans still recognise and appreciate him for his role in the film. He also spoke highly of working with director Rakesh Roshan, calling him one of the best directors he has ever collaborated with.
With the rise of streaming platforms, Rajat Bedi’s career has taken a positive turn. He sees the boom in OTT content as a fantastic opportunity for both actors and technicians to showcase their skills. After a gap of 16 years, he is making a significant return to Bollywood, with two major projects in the pipeline that he believes will be huge successes. He considers himself fortunate to have been specifically sought out for these roles based on his past work.
Rajat Bedi also shared some personal news, revealing that he is part of a third-generation film family, and the fourth generation is already preparing to enter the industry. His son, who is 22, is getting ready to become an actor and is “far more good-looking” than he is, according to Rajat. He also shared that his family’s connection to cinema runs deep. His father was filmmaker Narendra Bedi and his grandfather was writer Rajinder Singh Bedi, known for his work on classic films. Rajat’s elder sister is also a successful writer who penned the 2012 film Agneepath and is currently writing for a new Sanjay Leela Bhansali project starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
