The Bollywood fraternity will be pretty happy saying goodbye to 2022 because the year was no less than a nightmare for the industry as many movies which were expected to perform superbly on the box-office turned out to be disasters. What was quite surprising was that big actors like Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh who are known for delivering hit films gave back to back flop movies but if you feel that only Bollywood actors are going through rough phase, you are definitely wrong. Some southern superstars whose presence in a film was more than enough to make the flick superhit are also facing problems in their career as their last 2-3 movies have fallen flat on the box-office.
If you are not able to believe it, here is the list of such 4 south Indian actors who have once ruled the industry but are struggling with nonstop flop flicks now:
1. Rajinikanth:
The first name on this list is of the southern superstar Rajinikanth who is considered no less than the God by his fans. The last two movies of Thalaiva – 2020 released Darbar and 2021 released Annaatthe failed in performing well on the box-office and now his fans are eagerly waiting for his next release Jailer which is scheduled to release on 14 April 2023. The Tamil movie which is written and directed by Nelson will also star Shiva Rajkumar, Ramya Krishnan and Vasanth Ravi in pivotal roles.
2. Mohanlal:
Mohanlal is certainly one of the biggest actors of the Malayalam film industry and he has given many hits in his career but currently he is struggling to give a hit film as his last superhit flick was 2019 released “Lucifer”. Prithviraj Sukumaran also played an important role in the movie and it was the first Malayalam film to cross the Rs. 200 crore mark. Since then, some movies of Mohanlal released in cinema halls and few released on OTTs (Ittymaani: Made in China (2019), Big Brother (2020), Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham (2021), Aaraattu (2022) & Monster (2022)) but he failed in making an impact with them. Mohanlal will be seen next in Alone & Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure.
3. Chiranjeevi:
The megastar of Tollywood (Telugu Cinema) gave his last hit in 2017 which was Khaidi No. 150 but after that, he failed in weaving his magic on the big screen. His last three releases – Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (2019), Acharya (2022) and Godfather (2022) didn’t perform well on the box-office and the actor and his fans are really hoping that his next flick Waltair Veerayya (2023) with Ravi Teja will change his fortunes.
4. Prabhas:
Prabhas become a pan-India star after the super success of both the movies of “Baahubali” series but things have changed completely after that. The last two releases of Prabhas – Saaho (2019) and Radhe Shyam (2022) were expected to perform great on the box-office but both the flicks turned out to be disasters. What is more worrisome is that his next release Adipurush has already received a lot of criticism after its teaser got released and only a miracle can make this movie a hit. Though Prabhas has some big films – Prashanth Neel’s Salaar and Project K in his kitty, only time will tell how these movies will perform on the box-office.
