As audiences continue to pour into theatres, the veteran actor admits he never imagined the kind of response his character would receive. Playing Jameel Jamali in the film, Rakesh Bedi says the appreciation has been overwhelming, with messages coming in not just from India but from viewers across the world who have connected deeply with his performance.
While Rakesh Bedi is soaking in the love for his own role, the spotlight has also returned to his co-star Akshaye Khanna who plays Rehman Dakait. Many fans and critics have described the film as a comeback for Akshaye but Rakesh Bedi sees the narrative differently. Having worked closely with him on set, he believes Akshaye never truly went away. According to Rakesh Bedi, not every film can be a massive box office success but that doesn’t mean an actor has disappeared from the industry. In his view, Akshaye Khanna has always been active, doing consistent work, even if some of those films didn’t grab headlines.
Dhurandhar’s success, however, is on a scale that few films ever reach. The movie has already crossed Rs 1186 crore worldwide, placing it among the biggest blockbusters in recent memory. Rakesh Bedi feels that such massive success cannot be planned or repeated at will. He believes this kind of moment comes once in a lifetime, pointing out that even actors who deliver historic hits often struggle to recreate the same magic. For him, these waves of success are rare, unpredictable and impossible to label or define.
He also reflects on how many people in the film industry wait their entire careers for a phase like this and some never experience it at all. According to Rakesh Bedi, iconic successes stand apart and cannot be measured by formulas or categories, much like certain legendary films in global cinema that remain unmatched decades later.
Beyond worldwide numbers, Dhurandhar has also made history closer to home. One month after its theatrical release, Ranveer Singh-led spy thriller has become the first Hindi film to cross Rs 800 crore at the Indian box office. This milestone has never been achieved by a Bollywood film before. The only other Indian movie to reach that figure domestically is Pushpa 2: The Rule, directed by Sukumar and starring Allu Arjun, which earned Rs 1234.1 crore net in India including Rs 812.14 crore from its Hindi version.
In comparison, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan collected Rs 640 crore in India, while Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava wrapped up its run at around Rs 600 crore. With Dhurandhar, records have fallen, expectations have been shattered and for actors like Rakesh Bedi, the journey has been as surprising as it has been unforgettable.
