Ranbir Kapoor Shares Big Update About Animal Movie, Says It Will Be A Trilogy

Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor has revealed that his 2023 blockbuster “Animal” is the first installment in a planned three-part franchise. While speaking at an event, Ranbir shared updates about the sequel “Animal Park” which is currently in the scripting phase. The team is expected to start filming the sequel in 2027.

During the interview, Ranbir Kapoor said, “We should start that film in 2027. It’s a bit away. He (Sandeep Reddy Vanga, director) just kind of flirted with what he wants to do with the movie. It wants to make it over three parts. The second part is called Animal Park. We have been sharing ideas from the first film itself, and how we want to take this story forward. It is very exciting because now I get to play two characters – the antagonist and the protagonist. It is an extremely exciting project with an extremely original director. I am very excited to be a part of it.”

Released in December 2023, “Animal” became a massive box office success, earning over Rs 900 crore. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film starred Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles and featured Anil Kapoor in a pivotal role.

The story focuses on Vijay (played by Ranbir), an anti-hero with a toxic yet deeply protective relationship with his father. The narrative explores Vijay’s desperate attempts to earn his father’s approval, leading to intense and violent conflicts.

Despite its commercial success, “Animal” faced criticism for its portrayal of toxic masculinity and misogynistic themes. Many viewers raised concerns about the film’s narrative choices, sparking debates in both audience and critical circles.

Sai Pallavi co-stars in the highly anticipated film. He is also set to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Love and War” alongside Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt.

The “Animal” franchise promises to keep fans eagerly awaiting its future installments while solidifying Ranbir Kapoor’s position as one of the most versatile actors of Bollywood.
