It’s no secret that Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone were once one of the most talked about couples of Bollywood. Their love story began when both were fresh faces in the industry, full of promise and dreams. But what seemed like a fairy-tale romance eventually ended on a sour note, leaving behind pain, regret and important life lessons.
In a resurfaced interview, Neetu Kapoor reflected on her son’s relationship with Deepika and she believed something vital was missing between them.
According to her, Ranbir was “not himself” during that time and while she admitted Deepika was the only serious girlfriend he had back then, she felt the relationship simply wasn’t meant to last. “Everybody has relationships, and they move on,” she said, suggesting that if things had been perfect, the two would never have broken up.

Deepika Padukone, however, experienced the heartbreak from a very different angle. In earlier interviews, she openly spoke about how betrayal had scarred her. She revealed that Ranbir had cheated on her, not once but several times. For her, infidelity was something she could never overlook. “If I’m going to be in a relationship, I’m fully committed. But not everyone thinks the same way,” Deepika said in a candid conversation. Despite warnings from friends, she admitted that she gave Ranbir a second chance, only to catch him cheating again. That moment, she said, was when she knew the relationship was truly over.
The pain was deep and the healing took time. She recalled crying endlessly after their breakup, feeling broken but also realising the importance of picking herself up. Over time, she learned to let go of being too attached to one person and instead focused on becoming stronger. Looking back, she expressed gratitude, saying the difficult experience shaped her into a better version of herself.
Ranbir too, years later, acknowledged his mistakes. In 2011, he admitted that he had indeed cheated on Deepika. He called it a result of immaturity, inexperience and carelessness. While his honesty came after the damage was done, it showed that he had grown and was ready to take responsibility for his past.
Life, however, had different plans for both of them. Deepika eventually found love again with Ranveer Singh and the two are now happily married. Ranbir, on the other hand, married Alia Bhatt and together they started a new chapter of their lives. What’s remarkable is that despite their painful history, Deepika and Ranbir along with their respective partners have managed to build a warm friendship. Today, they share not just cordial ties but also the joy of parenthood.
What began as a whirlwind romance and ended in heartbreak has now become a story of resilience and growth. Both the stars have moved forward, carrying the lessons of the past but leaving behind the bitterness.
