The list of India’s biggest box office hits has seen a notable change, with a fresh entry shaking up the top 10. Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar has officially claimed the tenth spot, pushing out last year’s blockbuster Animal after a strong performance on its third Sunday. The achievement goes beyond just impressive numbers, as it also led to a warm and unexpected exchange between two filmmakers known for their intense and unapologetic style of storytelling.

By 10 pm on its third Sunday, Dhurandhar had collected Rs 555.7 crore at the Indian box office, narrowly overtaking Animal’s lifetime domestic total of Rs 553 crore. With that, Animal slipped out of the prestigious top 10 list, making room for the spy thriller. Dhurandhar is now the second film released in 2025 to enter this elite group, following Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1, which sits higher on the list with Rs 622 crore.

Despite the reshuffle, the moment was marked by appreciation rather than rivalry. After watching Dhurandhar, Sandeep Reddy Vanga openly praised the film, highlighting its strong, confident tone and controlled storytelling. He admired the film’s clarity, the powerful performances and the way the actors completely transformed into their roles. His words reflected respect for a film that chose restraint and intensity over excess.

Aditya Dhar responded with equal grace, expressing how meaningful the appreciation was, especially coming from a filmmaker he has long respected. He acknowledged Sadneep Reddy Vanga’s fearless commitment to his creative vision and shared that Dhurandhar was made with honesty, discipline and conviction. The recognition, he felt, quietly validated the journey behind the film.

Set in Pakistan in the early 2000s, Dhurandhar tells the story of an Indian intelligence officer who goes undercover within the Lyari gangs. Directed by Aditya Dhar and inspired by real events, the film blends grit with realism. Its ensemble cast features Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi. With its box office momentum and industry respect, Dhurandhar has firmly secured its place in Indian cinema’s record books.
