The Australian team decided to bat first after winning the toss and got a steady start as its openers David Warner (15) and Usman Khawaja (81) produced a partnership of 50 runs for the first wicket before Warner got out. Peter Handscomb remained unbeaten at 72 runs and skipper Pat Cummins also made a useful contribution of 33 runs but other batters failed in making any impact because of which the visitors missed to touch the 300-run mark. While Mohammed Shami took 4 wickets, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja shared the remaining 6 wickets equally.

The Indians were in high spirits during the Australian innings as they were getting wickets at regular interval and during the 64th over, the former Indian skipper Virat Kohli made a remark for Ravindra Jadeja which revealed that the player who has nicknames – “Sir”, “Jaddu” & “Rockstar” has got a new nickname which is connected to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s latest release.

The stump-mic caught Virat Kohli telling Ravindra Jadeja in a loud voice, “Chal Pathaan. Shabaash. Chal Pathaan out karke de..” (Come on Pathaan, take a wicket Pathaan).

Ravindra Jadeja may have been nicknamed as Pathaan because of his new hairstyle which is quite similar to the hairstyle of Shah Rukh Khan in the movie and it may also because of the video in which Jadeja was seen doing dance moves of the movie’s song, “Jhoome jo Pathaan”.

The Indian team didn’t get a very good start as KL Rahul once again disappointed everyone and got out on the score of 17 runs while the skipper Rohit Sharma who scored a century in the first test match was dismissed on the score of 32 runs. Cheteshwar Pujara, the senior Indian batter, must be very upset as he failed to open his account in his 100th test match and Shreyas Iyer got dismissed at the meager score of 4 runs. While Virat Kohli missed his half-century by 6 runs, the Player of the Match of the first test match, Ravindra Jadeja scored 26 before getting out.

However, the Indian squad which was reeling at the score of 139/7 at one time is now in a comfortable position as Axar Patel and R Ashwin not only stabilized the innings but also kept the score board ticking. Whereas R Ashwin made a useful contribution of 37 runs before the Aussie skipper Pat Cummins took his wicket, Axar Patel scored 74 runs and gave a much needed boost to the Indian innings before getting dimissed.

By the time this article was written, the Indian team was all out at the score of 262 runs and now it’s trailing by just 1 run. Nathan Lyon is the most successful Aussie bowler as he has taken 5 wickets, Pat Cummins has dismissed 1 batter and 2-2 wickets have been taken by Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann each.
