The Indian cricket squad under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan has scripted history as it has won the 3-match ODI series by 3-0. This is not the first time that team India has won a bilateral series in West Indies but this is the first time that any Indian team has whitewashed the series.

The third and final match of the series which was played at Queen’s Park Oval was rain-affected but the Indian team didn’t let the strings go loose and kept complete control on the match. The man of the moment is certainly Indian cricketer Shubman Gill who made a great comeback in this format as he won not only the Player of the Match award but also the Player of the Series award for his consistent performances.

The Indian openers Shubman Gill (98* runs, 98 balls, 7 fours & 2 sixes) and Shikhar Dhawan (58 runs, 74 balls, 7 fours) gave a great start as they produced a partnership of 113 runs for the first wicket and team India managed to put up a total of 225/3 in 36 overs. Shreyas Iyer also played a brilliant knock of 44 runs (34 balls, 4 fours & 1 six) and supported Shubman Gill in a good manner after Shikhar Dhawan got out.

The hosts could manage only 137 runs and India won the match by 119 runs as per the Duckworth Lewis method.

The former cricketers and cricket fans took to social media to praise the Indian batter Shubman Gill who missed his century just by 2 runs because of rains which kept on intervening on a regular basis. When Shubman Gill reached his nineties, he started playing slower in order to ensure that he completed his century and it was then the IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore made a tweet praising him for his maiden international century even before the cricketer touched the three digit mark. It started raining again when Shubman Gill was on 98 and his century looked confirm but the umpires and match officials took the decision of bringing the Indian innings to an end because of which Shubman Gill wasn’t able to complete his century.

Though RCB deleted its tweet after Indian innings ended, many had taken the screenshot which was shared on Twitter and it soon went viral.

Here is the screenshot of RCB’s tweet:

The Indian team will now play 5-match T20I series against West Indies starting July 29 but in this series, Rohit Sharma will lead the team as he has reached the Caribbean islands.
