Fans of Royal Challengers Bangalore were a little hopeful of the men’s team winning the IPL 2024 because their women’s team lifted the WPL trophy in the second season and broke the jinx for RCB but it seems that their hopes will not last for long.
Yesterday RCB tasted their third defeat of the tournament in the match which they played against Lucknow Super Giants. This was the fourth match of RCB in the tournament and currently RCB is at the ninth position in the points table.
The match was played at RCB’s home ground M. Chinnaswamy stadium, Bengaluru and after winning the toss, RCB decided to bowl first. Quinton de Kock’s knock of 81 runs and Nicholas Pooran’s innings of 40 runs helped LSG in posting a total of 181/5 on the scoreboard.
RCB kept losing wickets at regular intervals and the star batter Virat Kohli was also not able to play a big innings this time. While Virat Kohli scored 22 runs, skipper Faf Du Plessis got out at 19 runs and Rajat Patidar (29 runs) was not able to capitalize despite getting a good start. Glenn Maxwell got out at duck, Cameron Green got out at 9 runs and RCB’s finisher Dinesh Karthik also fared poorly as he could score 4 runs only.
LSG bowler Mayank Yadav once again performed pretty well as he took 3 wickets in his 4 overs and gave away only 14 runs. He was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his superb bowling performance.
RCB could manage only 153 runs in 19.4 overs and lost the match by 28 runs, every defeat is making things problematic for RCB and ultimately, their chances of playing in the play-offs are decreasing with each loss.
Though RCB can make a comeback even now if they make huge improvements in all the segments, many online users feel that history is going to get repeated once again and RCB fans will have to wait more for the first IPL trophy.
