Ricky Ponting’s Reaction After Ashwin Didn’t Mankad Aaron Finch Is Going Viral

Ravichandran Ashwin created a storm last time when he mankaded the Rajasthan Royals batsman Jos Buttler in an IPL match in 2019 and yesterday he surprised everyone by leaving Aaron Finch with just a warning rather than mankading him.

Ashwin is now a part of Delhi Capitals and yesterday in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore when he was bowling, the RCB batsman Aaron Finch came out of the crease by a couple of yards. Ashwin had ample time to remove the bails but he chose to give Aaron Finch a warning only.

The cameraman was swift enough to shift his focus on the head coach of Delhi Capitals, Ricky Ponting who was found smiling on Ashwin’s act.

Here is how Ricky Ponting reacted:

Before the start of the IPL 2020, Ricky Ponting made it clear that he won’t allow his players to go for mankading and he will surely chat with Ashwin about this. They both also had an interaction in a YouTube video which was titled as Oru Mellisaana Kodu (Thin Line) and in the clip, R Ashwin asked Ponting to give his take on the matter as the former stated that he himself is a serial run-out at non-striker end person.

Ricky Ponting agreed to the fact that what Ashwin did was right since it was as per the laws but he was in favor of imposing a run penalty rather than getting the batsman run-out. Ponting said that if the batsman standing at non-striker end is leaving the crease even before the bowler throws the ball, he is indulging in an act of cheating and he should be punished.

What is your take on this matter? Do you feel that run-penalty is a better option than run-out or are you in favor of run-out? Let us know your views.
