Delhi Capitals (earlier Delhi Daredevils) is one of those few teams which have not won a single IPL title despite playing in the IPL since the inaugural edition and what makes it more surprising is that their best performance till date was in 2020 when they finished as runners-up.
We may get to see some big changes in DC this year as their head coach Ricky Ponting has already parted ways with the franchise and after being underachievers for so many years, the franchise is also looking forward to push the reset button and it will not only appoint a new head coach but also change the support and backroom staff.
Amid these changes, rumors are swirling about the future of DC’s captain, Rishabh Pant. Pant made his return to competitive cricket in the IPL 2024 after recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident. Despite being DC’s all-time leading run-scorer with 3,284 runs in 111 matches and their most capped player, the franchise is reportedly not satisfied with his leadership.
Adding fuel to the speculation, Rishabh Pant shared a post on Instagram that has intrigued fans. The post featured a collage of Pant and legendary actor Rajinikanth seated in a similar fashion, captioned as “Thalaiva,” which means “leader” in Tamil. This has led to theories that RP might be hinting at a move to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where the former captain MS Dhoni is affectionately called “Thala” by fans.

However, DC’s Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly, reportedly wants Rishabh Pant to continue as the franchise’s captain. On the other hand, CSK could be in search of a new wicketkeeper-batter if Dhoni decides to retire, and Pant’s credentials make him a strong candidate for that role. The upcoming season could see significant shifts in the IPL, with Rishabh Pant’s future being a key point of interest.
Will Rishabh Pant stay with DC or will we see him play for any other franchise in the IPL 2025? What do you think?
