The Board of Control for Cricket In India will soon make an announcement regarding the new head coach of the Indian cricket team, however as per various reports, most probably Gautam Gambhir will get this job.

The chances of Gautam Gambhir’s selection are pretty good because of the fact that the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders managed to win their third IPL trophy, exactly after 10 years, under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir and prior to that, they won 2 IPL trophies (2012 and 2014) under Gambhir’s captaincy.

Gautam Gambhir not only understands Indian domestic cricket but he is also fully aware of the changes that have come in modern cricket because he has been associated with IPL teams for the last three seasons (Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders). Moreover, he also works as a commentator and all these points can work in favor of Gautam Gambhir in a big manner.

The first assignment of the new head coach will be the Zimbabwe tour in which team India will be playing 5 T20I matches against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club. The tour will start from 5 July in less than a week of the T20 World Cup 2024 getting over and it is quite obvious that a young and fresh team will be visiting Zimbabwe.

There is good chance that seven top performers of the IPL 2024 will get a chance to play for the country in the tour to Zimbabwe. Currently many young players are practicing at National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru where a camp has been organized for these players including Riyan Parag, Harshit Rana, Abhishek Sharma, Yash Dayal, Mayank Yadav, Nitish Reddy and Vijaykumar Vyshak.

A source close to the BCCI stated that though Shreyas Iyer is not at the camp which has been organized by NCA, it will also be beneficial for him if Gautam Gambhir is selected as the head coach. There was a time when Shreyas Iyer was groomed as the next skipper but due to his injuries, he remained absent from cricketing action and some time back, he also lost the annual contract because the board was not happy with him as he ignored their repeated reminders of playing in domestic cricket.

As far as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are concerned, a source stated that these two will focus on ODIs and test matches after the T20 World Cup 2024 which means that it is the last time we are seeing them playing in an international T20 tournament.

Other players such as Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, etc. will not be a part of the squad which will visit Zimbabwe because they are playing cricket for a long time now as prior to the T20 World Cup 2024, they were playing in the IPL 2024.

It is also being said that the players (Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed and Rinku SIngh) who were kept as reserves for the T20 World Cup 2024 can also be selected for the Zimbabwe tour.

Who do you think will lead team India on the Zimbabwe tour?
