The Indian cricket fans were in for a delight yesterday as the Indian cricket team managed to defend their lowest total ever in T20Is in the match against Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
The architect of this win was the Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah who dismissed three batters in his 4 overs and gave only 14 runs. Bumrah is certainly one of the best pacers of all times and his unique bowling action makes him more lethal and mysterious.
The Indian team was put to bat first by the Pakistani side as Babar Azam won the toss, the disciplined bowling of the Pakistan bowlers made it difficult for the Indian batters to stay on the crease and score runs and India kept on losing wickets regularly.
The highest scorer for India was Rishabh Pant who scored 42 runs and the Indian squad got all out at the score of 119 runs. The target of 120 runs never seemed difficult for the Pakistani cricketers and they were batting pretty well too.
There was a time when Pakistan needed 48 runs to win from almost the same number of balls with 8 wickets in hand but by the end of 19 overs, they could manage only 113/7 as the Indian bowlers bowled some fiery spells.
While speaking at the post match presentation, Rohit Sharma was quite clear about the fact that his batters didn’t perform as per the expectations. He added that they didn’t produce partnerships because of which they fell short with the bat.
After giving a target of 120 runs to Pakistan, Rohit Sharma said that they all had a chat in which they said that each run will count on this pitch because there was enough to support the bowlers in the pitch and it was better than the one which was used in the last match. He praised the Indian bowling line-up and said that there is confidence when a team has such a good bowling line-up and at the halfway stage when Pakistan was batting, he got the team together and said that if it can happen to India, it can happen to Pakistan as well. He further said that even small contribution from each player of the team can make huge difference.
Talking about Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian skipper said that he is going from strength to strength, everyone knows what Bumrah is capable of and everyone also knows that he is a genius. Rohit Sharma said that he won’t be talking much about him because he wants his pacer to have this mindset throughout the tournament.
The Indian skipper also praised the crowd and said that they never disappoint no matter wherever the Indian team plays and he was happy as fans will go home with a smile on their faces.
Now India is at the top of the points table in Group A and as far as Pakistan is concerned, it will need to win the remaining matches and hope that USA loses its remaining matches if Pakistan has to make an entry in the Super Eight.
