On December 24, Rohit Sharma played a Vijay Hazare Trophy match for Mumbai after a gap of more than seven years and ensured it was one to remember. Featuring in Mumbai’s Elite Group C match against Sikkim at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, the world’s No. 1 ODI batter produced a stunning century that highlighted his enduring class and hunger for runs.

Rohit Sharma reached his hundred in just 62 balls, setting a new personal record in List A cricket. This effort bettered his earlier fastest century of 63 balls, which came against Afghanistan during India’s 2023 ODI World Cup league match in Delhi on October 11. His innings did not stop there, as he went on to score 155 runs from 94 deliveries, hitting 18 fours and 9 sixes to power Mumbai to a comfortable eight-wicket win.

The knock carried significant statistical weight as well. With this innings, Rohit Sharma equalled David Warner’s world record for the most 150-plus scores in List A cricket. Warner played 210 List A matches between 2007 and 2023, scoring 8,886 runs and registering nine scores of 150 or more. Rohit now matches that tally with nine such scores to his name.

For India, Rohit Sharma has crossed the 150-run mark eight times in 279 ODI matches, while this innings marked his first 150-plus score in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai. In comparison, David Warner scored seven 150-plus knocks during his 161-match ODI career for Australia from 2009 to 2023, with his remaining two coming while representing New South Wales in domestic cricket.

Rohit Sharma’s century also placed him among the oldest players to score a hundred in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. At 38 years and 238 days, he became the second oldest to achieve the feat, behind Bengal’s Anustup Majumdar, who scored a couple of centuries at over 39 years of age during the 2023–24 season.

For Mumbai fans and cricket followers alike, Rohit Sharma’s return was a powerful reminder that class, records and passion can shine just as brightly with time.
