Ahead of India’s third ODI against England at Lord’s, reports claimed that the match on July 21, 2026, could be Rohit Sharma’s final appearance in the 50-over format. The rumours gained momentum after India’s defeat in the second ODI in Cardiff, although the BCCI dismissed the reports. Rather than responding publicly, Rohit answered in the best way possible, with a superb century.
India lost the match by 27 runs while chasing England’s massive 388-run target, resulting in a series defeat. Now focused only on ODI cricket after retiring from T20 Internationals following India’s World Cup triumph and stepping away from Test cricket, Rohit Sharma has one major goal left, i.e., to win the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa. His commitment has also been reflected in his preparation. Rohit Sharma reportedly lost around 10 kilograms to improve his fitness and extend his career. Even with fewer appearances, he continues to show that once he gets settled, he remains one of the most dangerous batters in ODI cricket.

He also added that public discussions and scrutiny are a natural part of an athlete’s career and do not affect his mindset. According to Rohit Sharma, as long as he continues to perform on the field, the outside noise is simply part of the game.
