Injuries have been a very big problem for the Indian cricket team in the last one year or so but things seem to get sorted soon if the latest reports are to be believed. While Jasprit Bumrah is going to make a comeback in the Ireland tour, the Indian batters KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have also started batting in the nets and as per some reports, they will be available for selection for the Asia Cup.
However, then we also get to hear that KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer won’t be completely fit till the Asia Cup which is certainly not good news for Indian cricket. Recently, the skipper of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma was in USA for attending an event which was streamed live on Instagram and when he was asked about the fitness of Shreyas Iyer, Hitman stated that he is on the right track and hopefully he will be fine for the World Cup.
The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is going to be played in India from 5 October and it will start with New Zealand and England clashing against each other in the tournament opener. Talking about the Indian cricket team, it will play its first match on 8 October against Australia at Chennai.
While this is good news for the Indian squad, it may be bad news for the Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav because it was he who was tried as replacement of Shreyas Iyer but SKY has failed in leaving any impact till now.
Suryakumar Yadav secured the spot of number one T20 batter because of his explosive innings and the Indian team management gave him a chance in ODIs in order to use his wonderful form in the ODIs as well and also to prepare a backup of Shreyas Iyer. However, the 32 years old cricketer put up a disappointing show in the ODIs, in nine innings he had a hattrick of duck and just 127 runs. He played six matches against New Zealand and Australia in which he scored only 45 runs and in the recently concluded 3-match ODI series against West Indies, he scored only 78 runs.
It seems that the upcoming Asia Cup is the last chance for the Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav to justify his selection because if he fails this time, then he may not get a chance to represent the country in ODIs ever again.
