Rajasthan Royals have always stood for innovation, resilience and bold decisions in the IPL. Known for backing strong leadership and long-term thinking, the franchise once again finds itself at the centre of attention as it reshapes its future plans.

RR co-owner Manoj Badale has thrown his full support behind Kumar Sangakkara’s appointment as head coach, while also firmly dismissing renewed rumours about the franchise being up for sale. Rajasthan Royals confirmed recently that Kumar Sangakkara will take on a dual responsibility as head coach and director of cricket from the IPL 2026. He replaces Rahul Dravid, whose tenure as head coach concluded after the 2025 season.
Manoj Badale explained that the move was driven by a desire to streamline the team’s structure rather than reflect dissatisfaction with Rahul Dravid’s work. He acknowledged that the decision was difficult, especially given Rahul Dravid’s stature and contribution, and reiterated that Dravid continues to be regarded as one of India’s finest coaching minds. Sangakkara, having worked with the franchise earlier, was seen as the right fit to bring clarity and continuity in leadership.

Addressing speculation about a possible sale, Manoj Badale brushed it off as something the franchise has heard for nearly two decades. According to him, such rumours surface regularly and do not reflect reality.
On the cricketing front, Rajasthan Royals have been equally proactive. Ahead of the 2026 mini-auction, they reworked their squad by trading Sanju Samson and Sam Curran for Ravindra Jadeja. The Royals also strengthened their depth by signing uncapped Indian talents Sushant Mishra, Yash Raj Punja and Vignesh Puthur, while leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi joined the side after a fierce bidding battle for ₹7.20 crore.

RR was the first team to win the tournament as it won the inaugural edition — IPL 2008 — but since then, it hasn’t been able to repeat the success. Will this revamped team manage to script history and win their second IPL title? Only time will tell!
