Mukesh Choudhary produced a brilliant bowling performance in the Irani Cup 2026 and his Chennai Super Kings teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad was quick to celebrate his achievement. Ruturaj Gaikwad took to Instagram Stories on Friday, October 2, to congratulate Mukesh Choudhary after the fast bowler claimed five wickets for Rest of India in the first innings against Jammu and Kashmir, the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy champions.

The match is being played at the Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar. Mukesh Choudhary bowled 19 overs and finished with five wickets for 78 runs as Rishabh Pant-led Rest of India bowled Jammu and Kashmir out for 278. Rest of India had earlier scored 237 runs in their first innings, giving J&K a 41-run lead before the second innings began.
Ruturaj Gaikwad shared a picture of Mukesh Choudhary during his run-up and praised his CSK teammate for proving his critics wrong. He recalled the doubts surrounding the fast bowler earlier in his career and said Mukesh Choudhary had repeatedly shown his ability on the biggest stages.
Here is Ruturaj Gaikwad’s post:

Mukesh Choudhary and Ruturaj Gaikwad are not only teammates at CSK in the IPL but also play domestic cricket together for Maharashtra. Mukesh Choudhary started his wicket-taking spree on Thursday when he dismissed J&K opener Shubham Pundir with the first ball of his third over. He returned on Friday and added four more wickets to complete his five-wicket haul.
His second wicket was Shubham Khajuria, who was bowled for just 4 runs. Mukesh Choudhary then dismissed opener Qamran Iqbal who was caught by Rishabh Pant after scoring 24 runs off 35 balls. He picked up his fourth wicket in the 44th over by dismissing Kanhaiya Wadhawan. Mukesh Choudhary completed his five-wicket haul when he removed J&K captain Paras Dogra with the fourth ball of the 60th over.

Despite Mukesh Choudhary’s impressive spell, Jammu and Kashmir finished the first innings with a crucial 41-run lead over Rest of India. That lead could prove decisive. If the Irani Cup match ends in a draw, Jammu and Kashmir will be declared winners based on their first-innings advantage.
