Shubman Gill, who has amassed 1893 runs in 32 Tests, was appointed India’s new Test captain on May 24. As he prepares to lead the side for the first time in the longest format, Sachin Tendulkar believes the 25 years old cricketer is on the verge of doing something special. He advised Shubman Gill to stay focused on what matters the most — the planning and execution within the team environment.
Sachin Tendulkar emphasised that outside commentary on Shubman Gill’s style of leadership, whether it’s too aggressive, defensive or lacking initiative, should not be a distraction. He further said that what truly counts is how well Gill and his team stick to their internal strategies and whether their decisions are made in the best interest of the side. Sachin noted that these factors, rather than external opinions, should guide Gill’s thinking throughout the tour.
Addressing Shubman Gill’s new role at No. 4 in the batting lineup, Sachin stressed the significance of every position in the team.
