Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is preparing to take on one of the most physically demanding roles of his career in Battle of Galwan, an upcoming action drama directed by Apoorva Lakhia. The film, based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops, aims to capture the raw intensity and national sentiment surrounding one of the most significant border confrontations in recent Indian history.

Set against the brutal and unforgiving landscape of Ladakh, the film has already begun testing Salman’s physical endurance. Reflecting on the challenge, the actor admitted that each passing year has made physically intensive roles more demanding. He explained that earlier in his career, he could manage such roles within a week or two but this project has required more effort than ever before.

According to Salman, the nature of action in Battle of Galwan is starkly different from his recent film Sikandar, with more realistic, hand-to-hand combat and physically taxing sequences. Shooting in extreme cold, running, fighting and performing action stunts at high altitude have made this project a true test of his stamina.

Salman shared that his schedule includes 20 days of filming in Ladakh, followed by seven to eight days of shoot in icy water, an ordeal set to take place within the month. The terrain and temperature have added complexity to the filming process, pushing the cast and crew to their limits in order to bring authenticity to the story.

Unlike most of his recent big-screen ventures that typically release around Eid, Battle of Galwan is breaking from tradition. Salman confirmed that the film won’t be released during the festive season and is instead slated for a January release. The patriotic narrative and the timing appear to align with the Republic Day sentiments, aiming to strike a chord with audiences beyond commercial timing.

In addition to Battle of Galwan, Salman also confirmed that a sequel to his widely loved 2015 film Bajrangi Bhaijaan is in the pipeline, though he did not share further details about its production timeline.

His most recent release Sikandar, directed by AR Murugadoss and released during Eid, failed to meet expectations at the box office. Despite a strong cast including Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal and Sharman Joshi, the film didn’t resonate with audiences and received mixed reactions from critics.

Battle of Galwan draws its inspiration from the real events of June 2020, when Indian and Chinese soldiers clashed in the Galwan Valley. Fought without the use of firearms due to pre-existing agreements, the conflict became one of the most intense and deadly confrontations in the region in more than 40 years. Indian soldiers, facing extreme terrain and overwhelming odds, displayed immense courage as the skirmish devolved into brutal close-quarter combat using improvised weapons such as iron rods and stones.

With its storyline grounded in real events and national pride, Battle of Galwan promises to be not just a cinematic spectacle but a tribute to the bravery and resilience of the Indian armed forces. And for Salman Khan, it marks a return to roles that demand both emotional depth and physical strength, crafted not just for box office success but to echo the spirit of the nation.
