Salman Khan and Irrfan Khan are two stars who have been shining bright in the sky of Hindi Film Industry. Mines of talent endowed with brilliant acting skills, the two Khans have given Bollywood a number of superhit films which have made them simply irreplaceable.
On one hand where Dabangg actor rules the industry after back-to-back hit movies, there’s Irrfan, on the other, who has earned fame not only in India but also internationally! And here comes the big news which all their fans would love!
Sallu Miya, as a producer, is making plans of a movie for which he has joined hands with “Inferno” actor Irrfan Khan. Isn’t it exciting? Yes, it definitely is! Title of the flick to be made under Salman Khan Films is out as well and it’s also freaky interesting, “Lions of the Sea”. The English period drama, as it’s supposed to be, is based on Komagata Maru incident.
As per reports, Irrfan will play the lead role in “Lions of the Sea” which will be shot in Canada, Hong Kong, UK and India and will be rolling in mid-2017.
Earlier, “Hero” starring Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty and “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” are made under the production house of Salman.
As reported by Mumbai Mirror, Salman Khan Films’ Chief Operating Officer, Amar Butala stated,
“It’s a powerful human story of struggle and triumph in which Irrfan will play a Sikh named Gurdit Singh. The story of those Sardars, Muslims, and Hindus is relevant even today as we hear and read about the refugee crisis and racial profiling constantly. We have begun work on the pre-production and will announce the director and the rest of the cast in the next few days.”
The “Sultan” actor has done partnership with Ajay Virmani for “Lions of the Sea” and here’s what he told media,
“Lions of the Sea is a film that depicts heroism of all those who were on board and challenged the racial policies of the British Empire.”
Salman further said,
“It is imperative to tell this story as it mirrors the current global refugee crisis. Lions of the Sea will allow us to embrace multiculturalism, diversity and bring humanity closer together.”
As far as Komagata Maru incident is concerned, nearly 12 Hindus, 24 Muslims and 340 Sikhs, all of them being Indian citizens, tried to immigrate to Canada in the year 1914 on a Japanese steamship named “Komagata Maru”. It was sailing to British Columbia’s Vancouver from Hong Kong via Shanghai and Yokohama, carrying commuters from Punjab. Just 24 out of all had been allowed in Canada while Komagata Maru had to come back to India forcibly. In the early 20th century, it was the very first time when exclusion laws were brought into play by the United States and Canada to bar Asian origin immigrants.
At the present time, movies based on real incidents are in and get good response from the audiences as well. Let’s wait and watch whether “Lions of the Sea” will also be a blockbuster like few other movies of Salman Khan! What’s more, it would be interesting to see the magic of Irrfan Khan being recreated on big screen once again!!
