Sanju Samson led Rajasthan Royals registered a big win over 5 times IPL champion Mumbai Indians yesterday in a match which was played at Wankhede stadium, Mumbai and with this, RR grabbed the top spot in the points table.
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and chose to bowl first, the decision got proved absolutely correct as RR pacer Trent Boult was literally on fire, he sent three MI batters – Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhir and Dewald Brevis for golden duck each and that too within a span of four balls.
MI had lost its top 4 batters at the score of 20 runs, though Tilak Varma (32 runs) and skipper Hardik Pandya (34 runs) tried to control the damage, they also couldn’t do much and MI could score only 125/9 in the stipulated 20 overs.
In response, RR chased the target successfully with 6 wickets in hand and 27 balls remaining in their innings. Riyan Parag, the RR batter who is currently in great form was the highest scorer for his team as he played a beautiful innings of 54 runs not out for which he faced 39 balls and his innings included 5 fours and 3 sixes.
During the post-match presentation, Sanju Samson stated that he feels the toss was the game changer as the pitch as too sticky in the beginning and they used the experience of Trent Boult and Nandre Burger very well.
Talking about Trent Boult, Samson said that Trent Boult has been playing at international cricket for the last 10-15 years and this is what is expected from him with the new ball. Sanju Samson also accepted that he didn’t expect MI to lose 4-5 wickets so early but at the same time, he added that his bowlers did a great job.
Sanju Samson was also full of praises for spin duo – Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. He said that they know they have big individuals in their team but what matters is that they understand what the team demands and each individual plays his role in a good manner and keeps moving ahead.
He added that Yuzi and Ashwin knew that the team needed a good powerplay and they didn’t go for wickets despite the fact that the pitch was turning and it was slowing down as well, instead they kept increasing pressure which gave wickets eventually.
When Sanju Samson was asked to comment on Yuzvendra Chahal who ended the match with the figure of 3/11, Samson said that he is really fired up in the current season and he has been performing very well for RR for the past 2-3 years.
Trent Boult was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his super bowling performance (3/22 in 4 overs) as he played an important role in RR’s win.
