Sanju Samson has long been one of the most dependable and dynamic wicketkeeper-batters in Indian cricket. Known for his elegant stroke play and calm leadership, he has been the face of Rajasthan Royals for several seasons. But as the IPL 2025 mini-auction draws near, Sanju Samson’s future with the franchise appears uncertain, with reports suggesting that he is keen to explore a new chapter in his career.

According to multiple sources, Sanju Samson has expressed his desire to leave Rajasthan Royals (RR), bringing an end to his seven-year association with the former IPL champions. His potential exit has triggered widespread interest across franchises, with teams like Delhi Capitals (DC) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) reportedly in talks to secure his services before the upcoming season.
A report by a leading publication revealed that DC had been close to finalising a swap deal with RR that would have seen Samson return to his old franchise in exchange for South African batter Tristan Stubbs. However, RR later asked for uncapped power-hitter Sameer Rizvi to be included in the trade. DC who consider Rizvi a key part of their future plans declined the offer, bringing negotiations to a standstill.

With the DC deal collapsing, attention has now shifted to Chennai Super Kings. RR are said to be actively discussing a potential trade involving Sanju Samson and veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. But according to reports, Rajasthan’s management is also keen on adding young South African talent Dewald Brevis as part of the same deal, a demand that could complicate matters further.
Dewald Brevis, who joined CSK midway through a tough IPL 2025 season as an injury replacement, impressed with his explosive batting, scoring 225 runs in just six innings at a remarkable strike rate of 180. However, CSK are reportedly unwilling to include an additional player in the trade. RR owner Manoj Badale is said to be personally leading the negotiations, while CSK management has already held preliminary discussions with Ravindra Jadeja about the possible move.
Sanju Samson’s decision to part ways with RR reportedly stems from internal disagreements, most notably the franchise’s choice to release Jos Buttler ahead of the last year’s mega auction. The move did not sit well with the RR skipper who had shared a strong bond with the English batter both on and off the field. He has publicly spoken about his disappointment over the decision, describing it as one of the most difficult moments of his captaincy.
The 30-year-old remains one of the most sought after Indian players in the IPL, with his leadership, consistency and aggressive batting making him a valuable asset. Whether he stays with RR or dons new colours next season, Sanju Samson’s next move is certain to be one of the most closely watched developments ahead of the IPL 2025.
