When it’s about films, Aamir Khan is a brand which cannot fail. Over the last 10 years or so, Aamir Khan has built a reputation for making best films.

Now he is back with a new film, Secret Superstar. First thing first, Aamir doesn’t have a lead role in the film, but a guest appearance. Secret Superstar’s main lead is Zaira Wasim who played young Geeta in Dangal.

From the trailers, Secret Superstar promised to be an emotionally entertaining and enlightening watch. Now that film is finally in cinemas, let’s see how it is in real.

Story & Screenplay

A young girl Insiya, with a dream to be a big singer lacks nothing on talent but support from her very own father. But as they say – where there is a will, there is way. Insiya manages to make her own path with the help of mother and Shakti Kumaarr.

The story may look routine and predictable but it has so much to deliver in the screenplay department. Writing department excels and takes you on an emotional and heartwarming journey.

It may not be that big action and musical extravaganza that appeals to masses, but if you just have a normal heart, there are great chances the screenplay will appeal to you. As I watched the film, I couldn’t resist those tears flow through my eyes at various moments. Same was the case with others in the audience as well. We see a film like that in Bollywood rarely. No?

Direction & Performances

Advait Chandan shows his brilliance as a director even though it’s his debut. The film makes a long-lasting impact on the audience.

If Zaira Wasim was brilliant in Dangal, she is even better in this one. She makes the character of Insiya as her own and gives so much to it. You feel her pain inside you and that’s because of her incredible performance.

Meher Vij is tremendous in the character of Insiya’s mother. Raj Arjun makes you hate him as the father of Insiya.

Last but not the least, Aamir Khan has done a phenomenal job in the small role he plays.

Music & Technical Aspects

Music is heartfelt and goes well with the narrative. The film has a low budget so it doesn’t have great cinematic experience.

Overall, Secret Superstar is a must watch film if you are a fan of emotional and heartfelt cinema. Go and watch it with your families.
