Chennai Super Kings’ troubles deepened with a fourth consecutive defeat at home in the IPL 2025, leaving them stranded at the bottom of the points table. In the aftermath of the loss, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag questioned the team’s approach and commitment, suggesting that Chennai’s batters looked eager to get through the matches without much fight.
Reflecting on the team’s passive body language, Virender Sehwag noted that it seemed as if the players were waiting for the tournament to end rather than trying to battle it out in difficult conditions. He pointed out that someone in the batting order needed to take responsibility, especially during challenging innings.
Virender Sehwag highlighted Ravindra Jadeja’s performance, remarking that although his strike rate has not been particularly strong this season, he should focus on staying at the crease longer to provide stability. According to him, Ravindra Jadeja had the chance to anchor the innings, allowing others to play more freely around him, but instead, poor shot selection and impatience cost Chennai dearly again.
Chennai Super Kings, still trying to recover from the absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad, have been forced to experiment with their batting lineup. After dropping Rachin Ravindra, Chennai brought in Ayush Mhatre at the top, while searching for the right player to solidify the No. 3 spot. For the match against Hyderabad, the team opted for an unconventional choice, promoting Sam Curran up the order.
Virender Sehwag expressed confusion over the decision, suggesting that players like Dewald Brevis would have been a more natural fit for the role given their experience and strokeplay. He added that a more conventional order, with Dewald Brevis at No. 3, followed by Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja, would have allowed Chennai to manage their innings more effectively.
The absence of Rturaj Gaikwad, who had been a consistent run-scorer at Chepauk, continues to hurt the side. With every match, CSK’s combination looks increasingly unsettled and unless they find quick answers, their season risks slipping away without a fight.
