Amrita Rao has returned to the big screen with Jolly LLB 3, bringing back her character Sandhya Tyagi after years of staying away from films. Recently, she appeared on a podcast and reflected on her career choices, her experiences in the industry and the guidance she once received from Shah Rukh Khan during the making of Main Hoon Na.
She recalled that Shah Rukh often took time during filming breaks to interact with her mother and offer advice about navigating the industry. Sharing his words, Amrita said he once told her, “200 filmein aayengi, par humein sirf do filmein karni hai. Aur fir usmein se vo ek film ho that people are waiting for.” Translated, he meant that she would receive hundreds of offers but she should only choose a couple of them, hoping that one of them would truly matter. According to Amrita, this philosophy shaped her selective approach to signing films.
She also remembered how Shah Rukh worked on set, explaining that he would channel the nervous energy of newcomers and set the tone for scenes. She said that with him, the first take was often the final take, as his focus and energy left little room for a second attempt. She added that this pushed everyone to bring their best from the start.
Now, years later, Amrita is once again part of a much-loved franchise. Jolly LLB 3, directed by Subhash Kapoor and produced by Alok Jain and Ajit Andhare under Star Studio18 and Kangra Talkies, reunites audiences with both Arshad Warsi and Akshay Kumar, each reprising their roles as rival lawyers named Jolly. The ensemble also includes Saurabh Shukla returning as Justice Tripathi and Huma Qureshi as Pushpa Pandey Mishra.
The series, which began in 2013 with Arshad Warsi and continued in 2017 with Akshay Kumar, has earned its popularity by mixing courtroom drama with humour and social commentary. While opinions on the third installment vary, some critics feel it doesn’t surpass the earlier films while others believe it delivers enough comedy, strong performances and engaging legal drama to stand on its own.
For Amrita Rao, this comeback marks not just a return to a successful franchise but also a reaffirmation of her thoughtful and selective journey in cinema, one that continues to resonate with fans.
